In this publication, PhotonDelta and its partners demonstrate how this technology is evolving from the lab to industry, and why investing in a mature photonic chip ecosystem is crucial for Dutch strategic autonomy and economic growth. These chips play a key role in enabling faster, more energy-efficient, and compact systems across various applications, from data communication and AI to healthcare and quantum computing.
New Origin, together with PhotonDelta, University of Twente, Province of Overijssel, Oost NL en ChipTech Twente, is taking the next step to scale up the production of photonic chips. “Twente has been building photonic chip technology for over 30 years, from research to successful market introduction. With a strong, collaborative cluster, we offer customers everything under one roof: from chip design and development to production and packaging. At the same time, we continue to innovate in materials and equipment to remain a leader in the coming decades,” said Twan Korthorst, CEO of New Origin.

In deze publicatie laat PhotonDelta samen met partners zien hoe deze technologie zich ontwikkelt van lab naar industrie, en waarom investeren in een volwassen fotonische chip-ecosysteem essentieel is voor de Nederlandse strategische autonomie en economische groei. Deze chips spelen een sleutelrol als het gaat om snellere, energiezuinigere en compactere systemen voor datacommunicatie en AI tot gezondheidszorg en quantum toepassingen.
New Origin zet samen met PhotonDelta, Universiteit Twente, Provincie Overijssel, Oost NL en ChipTech Twente de volgende stap om de productie van fotonische chips op te schalen. “Twente bouwt al ruim 30 jaar aan fotonische chiptechnologie, van onderzoek tot succesvolle marktintroductie. Met een sterk, samenwerkend cluster bieden we klanten alles onder één dak: van chipdesign en ontwikkeling tot productie en packaging. Tegelijk blijven we innoveren in materialen en apparatuur om ook de komende decennia koploper te blijven”, zegt Twan Korthorst, CEO New Origin.
